Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. EveryDayBook has no sign-up and no EveryDayBook account. Your book is tied to the Apple Account you’re already signed into on your iPhone.

Which devices does it run on?

EveryDayBook 1.0 is an iPhone app. There’s no iPad or Mac version yet. System requirements will be listed on the App Store page.

Where is my book stored?

Only on your iPhone and in the private iCloud database of your own Apple Account. There’s no EveryDayBook server, nothing is sent to us, and we can’t read your book. Documents and photos are kept in the app’s folder in your iCloud Drive. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Is my book encrypted?

Your writing — entries, names and notes — is end-to-end encrypted in iCloud, so only your own devices can read it. Other details, such as dates and amounts, are protected by Apple’s standard iCloud security. Documents and photos have Apple’s standard iCloud protection, and become end-to-end encrypted if you turn on Apple’s Advanced Data Protection in Settings → [your name] → iCloud.

How do I make sure my book is backed up to iCloud?

Make sure you’re signed into iCloud and that iCloud is turned on for EveryDayBook in Settings → [your name] → iCloud. If iCloud is off or unavailable, the book keeps working on your iPhone, just without the iCloud copy. Exporting your book now and then is a good extra backup.

Is my Health data uploaded anywhere?

No. If you turn on Health, EveryDayBook reads your steps, active calories and resting calories from Apple Health so they can sit beside your day. Those readings stay on your iPhone. They’re never synced to iCloud and never sent to us or anyone else. EveryDayBook never writes anything to Apple Health.

Health shows zeros. Is it broken?

Possibly not. Apple Health doesn’t tell apps whether you said no to reading your data, so “no access” and “no steps today” look the same to the app. Check Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → EveryDayBook (or, in the Health app, your profile picture → Apps) and make sure the categories are turned on.

Can I add to my book with Siri?

Yes. EveryDayBook has an “Add to my book” action you can use with Siri or in the Shortcuts app, so you can add a line without opening the app.

Can I export my book, or bring in an old journal?

Yes. You can export your whole book as plain-text Markdown files, which open in any text editor, and you can import an existing journal written in Markdown. Export is always free.

What’s free and what’s in Plus?

Free: write, read, search and export your book, plus tasks, lists, the calendar and up to 100 documents.

EveryDayBook Plus adds reports, Health and unlimited documents. It’s US$4.99 a month or US$39.99 a year, and can be shared with your family through Apple’s Family Sharing. It renews automatically until you cancel. There’s no free trial. Prices are in US dollars; the price in your local currency may vary and is shown in the App Store before you buy.

If I cancel Plus, do I lose anything?

No. Your book stays yours. Everything you’ve written stays readable, and you can still search and export all of it.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → EveryDayBook. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

I got a new phone. How do I restore my purchase?

Sign in with the same Apple Account, open the Plus screen in EveryDayBook and tap Restore Purchases.

How do I delete my data?

See Delete your data for step-by-step instructions.
